
Wetland Biologist

EDAW Inc, a world leader in landscape architecture, planning and environmental services has an immediate opening for a Biologist in Wetland Ecology to support our San Diego office.
Duties: In this position you will have ample opportunity to experience a broad range of multi-disciplinary projects in the public and private sector. We welcome your expertise and creative ideas to enhance and broaden the services provided to our clients. This position works with a variety of clients and requires occasional travel. Duties include completing jurisdictional delineations, writing delineation reports, writing sections of environmental documents (NES, BTR, EA, EIR, etc.), and preparing permitting packages. Additional duties may include assisting on botanical surveys, listed species surveys, conservation plans, habitat management plans, and restoration projects. This position will involve some project and/or task-level management.
Skill Requirements:
Candidate must have:
- A strong background in wetland ecology and jurisdictional permitting, experience with restoration planning also desired. Experience in biological survey fieldwork including conducting formal jurisdictional delineations is required.
- Knowledge of major state and federal agencies (e.g., USACE, USFWS, BLM, BOR, CDFG, RWQCB, and CCC) and major regulatory frameworks (e.g., NEPA, CEQA, ESA, CESA, CFGC, CWA and CCA)
- Strong writing skills and experience completing formal Jurisdictional Delineations and preparing permit packages (including CWA Section 404/401, CFGC Section 1600-1616, CCA Section 30600 CDP), Mitigation and Monitoring Plans, Biological Assessments, EIR/EIS sections; and experience in agency consultations under Sections 7 and 10 of ESA (including preparation of HCP/NCCP documentation)
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team, and be innovative and a problem solver.
- Solve complex issues related to wetland ecology, watershed planning, ecological restoration, conservation planning, and/or natural resources planning.
Play an integral role in marketing and business development efforts in pursuit of new projects.
- Project management skills, including the ability to ensure projects stay on schedule, staff management, and budget and financial management.
- Prior consulting experience strongly preferred, but non-consultant candidates with relevant experience will be considered.
- Experience in California is a must. Experience in southwest U.S. is also favorable.
Education Requirements: BS in biology, environmental science, or related field and 4-8 years of professional experience or advanced degree in biology, environmental science, or related field and 2-6 years of professional experience.
